Post-2015 Development Agenda: Yuwalaya celebrates Global Week of Action

As the United Nations has called the world to speed up campaigning to collect more votes under the 'My World' campaign, Yuwalaya is organising various programmes to collect more votes from Nepal about the priorities for the post-2015 development agendas.

May 5th – Day 1

To mark the Global Week of Action (GWA) of My World, Yuwalaya organised a one-day orientation on My World and GWA. Altogether 34 youths studying in the first and second years of Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at the Classic College International (CCI), Pingalasthan, Kathmandu, participated in the orientation. The session was facilitated by co-founder of Yuwalaya, Sanjog Thakuri who has been actively involved in raising the voices of children, adolescents and youth in the post-2015 development agenda process and working as a campaigner of My World in Nepal.
The session started with introduction followed by a session on toolkits of the GWA. Since most of the youth were not aware about the MDGs, the discussion began with their explanation, development and importance of having voices on global issues especially in the My World. The facilitator also shared the present statistics and priorities of people of Nepal based on the My World data.
After the session facilitator requested the participants to collect the votes on the ballots provided by Yuwalaya. 1500 ballots were distributed among students to collect the votes and also they decided to conduct viral social media campaigns on 8th May, 2014.

May 6th – Day 2
After realising importance of the My World Campaign, the Department of Social Work of the CCI agreed to join hands with Yuwalaya to mark the GWA. Acknowledging the college's support to expand awareness and collect more votes, Yuwalaya in coordination with the CCI organised a one-day orientation cum planning meeting with various youth representatives of BSW colleges and youth-led organizations on 6th May 2014. The session was facilitated by Thakuri, who is also looking after the post-2015 and My World programmes from Yuwalaya.
During the session, the facilitator discussed the MDGs, issues of youth, the country's progress in post-2015 development agenda and various ways of their participation and involvement in the agendas' development. After the discussion, participants requested for more than 6000 ballots to collect the votes. Around 1000 ballots were handed over and Yuwalaya will provide more in coming days.
The team also discussed about offline mobilisation activities. But due to the short span of time, they could not decide on the events. From 12 different institutions, 23 youth participated in the meeting. All the participating organisations and institutions also agreed to come into the same umbrella while marking a Global Week of Action.
